3 taken to hospital after crash on Va. 24
Two Staunton River High School students were injured in a wreck Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The students, both girls, were traveling eastbound on Virginia 24 in a Mercury Cougar. The 16-year-old driver tried to turn left onto Virginia 801, and the car was hit by a westbound Jeep about 5:30 p.m., said Virginia State Police Trooper J.A. Kent.
The collision pushed the Cougar into a vehicle that was at a stop sign on Virginia 801, Kent said.
The 16-year-old passenger in the Cougar was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Kent said. The drivers of the Cougar and the Jeep were also taken to the hospital.
Bedford County school spokesman Ryan Edwards said both students are expected to be OK.
"Both of them are only suffering minor injuries," he said.
The driver of the Cougar, whose name was not released because of her age, was cited for failing to yield the right of way, Kent said.
