Storm damages buildings in Buena Vista
Strong winds from a thunderstorm ripped off two roofs in Buena Vista on Wednesday, causing thousands of dollars in damage, an official said.
The roof over Tropical Sands Tanning, in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue, was blown off about 5:30 p.m., said Capt. Jim Smith of the Buena Vista Volunteer Fire Department.
The tin roof hit and damaged a nearby restaurant's sign and blocked the entrance to an ice cream shop.
The second roof came off the Sayre Factory Outlet Store, which is housed in a historical building in the 2500 block of Beech Avenue, Smith said.
The damage estimate is at least $50,000, Smith said.
The storm also knocked down several trees in the city, Smith said.
