People responsible for area forest fires
Fire officials have determined that two fires sparked Sunday on national forest land were the result of human activity.
Both fires have been contained.
The larger fire, on the southeast slope of Potts Mountain in Craig County, burned about 1,015 acres before it was contained Monday night, said B.J. Leonard, an information officer for the U.S. Forest Service.
The Potts Mountain rifle range and Forest Service Road 1063 will be closed for at least a day while crews cut down trees, reseed and more.
The smaller fire, on Brush Mountain in Montgomery County, burned about 6 acres, a news release from the U.S. Forest Service said.
The fire burned mostly ground cover such as dead leaves, the news release said.
