Salem Fair worker arrested

A registered sex offender wanted on a parole violation in New Hampshire was arrested by federal marshals at the Salem Fair on Monday, officials said.

U.S. Marshal Wayne Pike said his office learned on Monday from authorities in New Hampshire and Norfolk that 48-year-old Alan Ianni might be working at the fair. Ianni is a registered sex offender in New Hampshire, having been convicted in 2001 of felony sexual assault, Pike said. The fair was being packed up when marshals arrived Monday and approached Ianni, Pike said. When marshals identified themselves, Ianni ran a short distance and tried to scale a fence, instead falling and skinning his knee, Pike said. Ianni was apprehended there.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the foot pursuit.

Ianni, who ran a game at the fair, was taken to the Roanoke County Jail, where he is being held on a charge of being a fugitive from justice. Pike said Ianni will likely be extradited to New Hampshire to face the alleged parole violation.
