Ex-pharmacist indicted in medication misuses
Posted 4:15 p.m.
Former New Castle pharmacist Daniel Ray Lineberry was indicted this afternoon on 36 federal charges, including that he dispensed the prescription painkiller Lortab 24 times to a customer without a doctor's prescription.
Lineberry's pharmacy, the Craig County Medical Center Pharmacy, was shut down in August after the wife of a patient came forward and questioned whether Lineberry has mislabeled medication he prescribed to her husband.
Lineberry is also charged with nine counts of tampering with medications that could have led to the death or serious injury of a patient.
He is also charged with health care and mail fraud. Federal prosecutors say that he continued to bill Medicaid for supplying prescriptions to a nursing home in Newport, even after the home shut down.
Lineberry was arrested Friday and released on bond. His attorney, Greg Phillips of Salem, maintained after that court hearing that Lineberry's prescriptions never resulted in death or serious bodily injury and that he was beset by financial problems.
