A Supreme Court ruling last year gives states the option to expand Medicaid coverage for the poor and disabled to people with household incomes up to 138 percent of the federal poverty line.
The Affordable Care Act originally required the states to expand Medicaid, but the court ruled that states couldn't be penalized if they decided not to. See more coverage.
