Parks and recreation board has open spot in Blacksburg
The parks and recreation advisory board in Montgomery County is seeking a new member from Blacksburg.
The county Board of Supervisors will appoint an applicant from District F to serve for three years.
The advisory board makes recommendations to the county's recreation department regarding programming for all ages, including intramural sports, arts workshops and outdoor adventures.
The board meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Government Center in Christiansburg.

Town to participate in 'green' challenge with other communities
Blacksburg is one of four localities that will participate in the Green Community Challenge, a Virginia initiative to develop environmental policies and practices.
The initative is a friendly competition between the communities that includes 40 challenges. Among these challenges are; demonstrating that 5 percent of community electricity use is from renewable energy, organizing at least two public art events that promote sustainability and devloping community strategies for climate preparedness.
Other communities participating are Loudoun County, the City of Norfolk and Roanoke.
The findings of this challenge will help develop the Green Community Challenge Implementation Guide, which will information from the four communities.

Developers sought for 460 interchange plan
The Blacksburg Partnership is accepting requests for proposals for an office park site at the U.S. 460 interchange at South Main Street.
The team selected will be in charge of overseeing the property's development, while carrying out the vision of Blacksburg Partnership and the town.
Those interested must first submit a "Letter of Intent to Respond," due 4 p.m. Oct. 1 to the Blacksburg Partnership office at 506 S. Main St., Blacksburg.
