Military flyover set for Saturday's Va. Tech game
Weather permitting, the 48th Flying Training Squadron of the 14th Flying Training Wing from Columbus Air Force Base, Miss., will conduct the flyover at Saturday's Virginia Tech-N.C. State football game in Blacksburg.
It's the last home game of the season.
Two T-1A Jayhawk twin-engine advanced training aircraft are scheduled to make the flyover, timed to coincide with the end of the national anthem, according to a news release from the university.
The T-1A Jayhawk is a medium-range, twin-engine jet trainer used in the advanced phase of specialized undergraduate pilot training for students selected to fly airlift or tanker aircraft. It is also used to support navigator training for the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and international services, according to the news release
The jets will be flown by four crewmen, three of whom are graduates of Virginia Tech. The lead jet will be flown by Col. George Ross, who graduated in 1984, in honor of this weekend's 25th reunion for the Class of 1984. Also in the formation are Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets graduates Capt. Marty Slovinsky from the Class of 2000 and Capt. Tremayne Godbee of the Class of 2002, the news release said.
