Software glitch puts errors on tax bills in Christiansburg
An error caused by the software that compiles the information on the tax bills resulted in some bills indicating that residents own more vehicles than they actually do or that they don't own a vehicle at all, Town Manager Lance Terpenny said Thursday.
Terpenny said the town received some calls Thursday about the errors and staff members are trying to determine how many people are affected and how to resolve the issue.
Residents affected should call 382-6128.
Terpenny said the town receives personal property tax and real estate information from Montgomery County, and the town's software then converts that information into a file that can be used in the town's computer system.
From there, the information is sent to a third-party vendor for the town that prints and mails the bills, he said.
Terpenny said there has been an error in the software conversion function that has resulted in some of the mistakes on the bills.
