Radford teacher faces cocaine charges

Lori Anne Jarvis had been charged last month with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

A Radford teacher who was charged last month with possession of marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor is now also charged with felony possession of cocaine.

Lori Anne Jarvis, 43, was charged Sept. 3 after a juvenile suffered an apparent drug overdose at Jarvis' home, according to Radford city spokeswoman Becky Hawke.

According to a search warrant affidavit filed in Radford Circuit Court, the 15-year-old girl was rendered unconscious after smoking an unknown substance with a male there.

The girl's mother told police that another daughter went to Jarvis' home to look for the girl and found her unresponsive.

The girl was taken to a hospital and tested positive for marijuana and an "unknown substance in her system that caused her to seize up," according to the affidavit.

The girl was treated and released from the hospital.

Evidence collected at the scene of the incident was examined at a state lab and found to be cocaine, leading to the new charge, Hawke said Friday.

Hawke said Jarvis turned herself in to Radford police.

A third-grade teacher at Belle Heth Elementary School, Jarvis was placed on leave from the school system after her original arrest. She remains on leave, Hawke said.
