RU event to benefit LiveSTRONG fund

A Black, White and Yellow Ball gets under way at 8 p.m. Saturday to benefit LiveSTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

The semiformal event, hosted by various Radford University student organizations, aims to promote healthy lifestyles. All food provided by RU Catering fights either bone disease, heart disease, blood disease or cancer.

Radford's Greek Life and Honors Academy Student Organization have banded together to promote the event, and city businesses have donated door prizes to show support for the effort, said coordinator Kerith Rae, a senior in Radford's School of Communication.

"The Black, White and Yellow Ball is an opportunity to show the heart of Radford University students," Rae wrote in an e-mail. "It is a philanthropic event, open to the entire university, which focuses on a healthy lifestyle and a positive outlook. This is a positive effort on behalf of the students and the surrounding community which has been overshadowed by budget cuts and general public opinion."

The ball will be held in the Muse Banquet Hall. Tickets are $25 for singles and $40 for couples and are available in the Hulburt Student Center.
