Police department staff sees changes
In a string of changes that took place at the Christiansburg Police Department last week, two officers have been promoted to the rank of captain.
Capt. Chris Ramsey and Capt. Derek Altizer are the commanders of operations and support services, respectively. Both were promoted from the rank of lieutenant.
Capt. Barry O'Rourke retired from the department in August.
Patrol Lt. Dwayne Hale and Patrol Lt. Carson Altizer were promoted from sergeants, and Sgts. Steve Swecker and David Moye were promoted from officers.
Lt. Tim Brown, formerly a patrol lieutenant, became the lieutenant of accreditation and professional standards.
Also as part of the changes, Major Dalton Reid now carries the title of assistant chief of police.
Reid said the reorganization took place to enable the department to better serve the community.
