Keith Dean Quesenberry, 21, turned himself in to police Tuesday afternoon, Christiansburg police Lt. Chris Ramsey said in a news release.
He was charged with voluntary manslaughter in the death of 23-year-old Michael Andrew Quesenberry of Pearisburg.
Police were called to a home on Moose Drive at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday. They arrived to find Michael Quesenberry on the ground and unresponsive.
According to a search warrant affidavit filed Tuesday in Montgomery County Circuit Court, someone was trying to administer CPR.
Michael Quesenberry was taken to Carilion New River Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 2 a.m., police said.
His body was taken to the Roanoke medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. A medical examiner determined that he died as the result of injuries he suffered during the
altercation, Ramsey said.
He said no weapons were involved.
According to the search warrant affidavit, one witness, Chasity Harmon, told police she saw Keith and Michael Quesenberry on the ground together in an apparent struggle.
She said she saw Keith Quesenberry with his arm around Michael Quesenberry in what she described as a chokehold, the affidavit says.
Harmon is listed in Michael Quesenberry’s obituary as his fiancee.
Police obtained the warrant to search Keith Quesenberry’s clothes and take swabs of his arms to see if any of Michael Quesenberry’s DNA was left behind during the
struggle.
Ramsey said it is unclear why the men were fighting.
Keith Quesenberry had originally been charged with assault and battery and appearing intoxicated in public. He was taken to the Montgomery County Jail but posted bond
and was released.
He was returned to the jail Tuesday and is now being held without bond, though a bond hearing is scheduled for today in Montgomery County General District Court. A
preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month.
