Several Montgomery County secondary schools will host open houses on Monday prior to the first day of school on Wednesday.

They are:

Auburn High School, 5 to 7 p.m.

Auburn Middle School, 4 to 6 p.m.

Blacksburg High School, 10 a.m. for freshmen, 4:30 p.m. for seniors, 5:30 p.m. for juniors and 6:30 p.m. for sophomores

Blacksburg Middle School, 3 to 7 p.m.

Christiansburg Middle School, 3 to 7:30 p.m.

Eastern Montgomery High School, 5 to 8 p.m.

Shawsville Middle School, 5 to 7 p.m.

New Hiwassee fire station plans opening event

The new Hiwassee Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Building will open with a celebration beginning at noon Saturday.

There will be a short ceremony honoring the department's founding members, followed by a ribbon-cutting, food and music.

According to an announcement from fire and rescue members, the new building will be the first joint fire and rescue building in the county.
