Confederate marker celebrates 100 years in Pearisburg

A parade at 11 a.m. today in Pearisburg will begin a daylong celebration of the 100th anniversary of the confederate monument there.

The parade will begin at the Andrew Johnston House and continue to the courthouse lawn.

From noon to 5 p.m., living history lessons will be available at the Andrew Johnson House, where the re-enactors will be set up in camps.

Other events are an antebellum fashion show, a deserter trail and a duel between two soldiers. Special guests include Al Stone, who portrayed Robert E. Lee in the History Channel movie "April 1865."

The McComas Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Giles Historical Society are sponsoring the event.
