Bar suspends Radford lawyer's license

The Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board on Tuesday suspended the law license of a Radford lawyer, saying he suffers from an impairment related to substance abuse and bipolar disorder.

Robert Max Jenkins' license to practice law is suspended indefinitely, according to a Virginia State Bar consent order.

According to the bar, a consent order was entered Feb. 11 that required Jenkins to submit to impairment examinations.

Jenkins did not submit to the required examinations, according to the bar. Instead, his guardian ad litem advised the bar that he continues to suffer from impairment. The guardian ad litem, along with Jenkins, requested that the bar suspend his license.

Jenkins said Tuesday he hasn't practiced in about three years.

"Like other people," he said, "I have problems that I've got to deal with." Jenkins declined to elaborate but said the problems will be addressed.

His father, Max Jenkins, still practices law in Radford.
