Man is convicted after diving through window
A Shawsville man was found guilty Tuesday of assault and battery and destruction of property for crashing through a window into a magistrate.
Dallas Calvin Gibson was also charged with attempted escape, but that charge was dismissed. He was ordered to spend 12 months in jail on each of the two convictions.
Gibson was in the Montgomery County magistrate's office Feb. 27 when he used his head to strike the Plexiglas window that separated him from Magistrate Michael Mitchell. He went through the glass and his head struck Mitchell.
Gibson testified at a hearing Tuesday in Montgomery County General District Court that he wasn't trying to get through the window. He said he wanted to hurt himself so he would be taken to a hospital instead of to jail.
Gibson had faced unrelated charges of trespassing and disorderly conduct before the incident at the magistrate's office. He was found guilty of both and sentenced to and additional 10 days in jail.
