Blacksburg police seek information about 2 robberies

Blacksburg police are investigating two robberies that occurred within an hour of each other early Sunday.

Both cases remained under investigation Monday, and police were still exploring whether they are related, said Lt. Joe Davis of the Blacksburg Police Department.

The first occurred at 2:21 a.m. as the male victim was walking into his apartment building in the 1200 block of Snyder Lane. The victim told police a male suspect grabbed him from behind, put an unknown object against his head and ordered him to the ground, Davis said. There, the suspect took the victim's wallet and cellphone, kicked him and left the area, Davis said.

The victim did not require medical treatment, he said.

The second incident occurred at 3:23 a.m. in the 100 block of Owens Street. Davis said a female victim was approached by a male suspect as she walked. The victim said the suspect struck her in the face and grabbed her purse. She was treated and released for facial injuries at Montgomery Regional Hospital, Davis said.

Police were not releasing either victim's name.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Blacksburg Police Department at 961-1150 or the tip line at 961-1819.
