The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and Blacksburg/Christiansburg Visitors Center was recently presented with the Southeast Tourism Society's Shining Example award as the "Best Chamber and Visitors Center of the Year."

Award nominations were evaluated on the overall performance of the organization. While nominations for the award could include the history and growth of an organization, the emphasis was on projects or programs developed or implemented from June 1, 2007, through May 31.

Names and Changes

MATT SIMMONS has joined Southland Log Homes as managing partner of the company's Christiansburg model home sales office.

DANIEL CARPER of Carper Insurance Associates in Blacksburg was honored by the Society of Insurance Counselors for his ongoing participation in the program by earning his CIC designation and maintaining all update requirements for 20 years.

WAYNE HUBBARD has jointed Schultz-Creehan LLC of Blacksburg as part of the multidisciplinary team responsible for the design and fabrication of medical devices, instrumentation and other components used by aerospace, defense and industrial manufacturers.

STEVE JOHNSON and ASHLEY VAUGHT are the new management team at Member One Federal Credit Union of Christiansburg. Johnson has joined as the vice president/branch manager, and Vaught has joined as the assistant vice president of the Christiansburg branch.
