Jousting, horse pulling and crosscut saw competitions -- rediscover the region's rural roots today and Saturday at this year's Newport Agricultural Fair.

The annual event held on the grounds of the Newport Recreation Center on Virginia 42 includes a livestock show, children's pet show and exhibits showcasing skills such as canning, baking and vegetable rearing. Festivities begin today at 4 p.m. Saturday's fireworks show starts at 9 p.m.

Parking is available at the First Christian Church, and a shuttle bus will run to the fair grounds from 6 to midnight tonight and 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday. Daily admission is $1 for children and $2 for adults.
