The Pulaski County sheriff has released the name of a Shawsville man who apparently drowned Wednesday while fishing in the New River.

Samuel Matthew Harless, 23, was fishing while wading with a friend under the Hazel Hollow Road trestle near the New River community of Pulaski County, Sheriff Jim Davis said Thursday.

The friend reported that Harless went under water about 1:30 p.m.

Authorities located his body a short time later, Davis said.
