Christiansburg to host youth World Series
The week-long double-elimination event will be in late July 2010 at Harkrader Sports Complex.
Art Price, director of Christiansburg Parks and Recreation, said that based on discussions from organizers of past tournaments, the tournament is expected to generate $1.5 million in economic activity for the area.
State champions from 11 states in the south plus the Christiansburg host team will compete in the tournament. That means players who made up the team that recently competed in the 11-to-12-year-old Dixie “O” Zone World Series in Pascagoula, Miss., will get another World Series shot.
Price, who’s been director of parks and recreation in Christiansburg since 1987, said the tournament will be the largest recreation and tourism event for Christiansburg to date.
“I’m glad to have this, one more, big thing going on,” he said.
