Police chief finalists to interview at RU

A committee at Radford University plans to interview three people this month who want to become the school's new police chief.

All three currently work as lieutenants in law enforcement, and two are local. Interviews and a public forum for each of the three are scheduled to begin today.

The first candidate to visit campus is Joe Davis, who has been with the Blacksburg Police Department since 1992 and has degrees from Radford and New River Community College. A forum for Davis is scheduled for 10 a.m. today in the Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center.

On Thursday, Deborah Morgan from the Virginia Tech Police Department is scheduled at 2 p.m. in the student center. Morgan is working on a degree in educational leadership at Tech and works as an administrative lieutenant liaison there, among other duties.

The third candidate, Colleen Roberts, will visit Radford on July 24. Roberts is with the Christopher Newport University police.

The new chief will replace Granville Hampton, who announced his retirement from the university in April.
