A memorial service for a rising Blacksburg High School senior who died in a weekend car crash is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.

Ayesha Wintersdorff died Saturday morning when the car she was driving crashed on U.S. 460 near the North Main Street intersection. The car hit a guardrail, went airborne and crashed into a field, police have said. The crash remains under investigation.

Counselors from New River Valley Community Services and the school system will be on hand for students who may have been friends with Wintersdorff at the service and at a reception to follow, superintendent Tiffany Anderson wrote in an e-mail.

School officials also are urging students to leave any memorials they may have for the girl against the school's main marquee. Other school-led events could take place in the future, said high school assistant principal Greg Stick.
