Applications up for Radford University

Applications and admissions are up at Radford University, setting school records for the second year in a row.

Radford has received 7,945 applications for admission for this fall. That's up from 7,552 last year and 6,377 the year before. For the past two years, Radford has admitted roughly 70 percent of the students who applied.

Last year, about 35 percent of those admitted chose to go to school there. Final enrollment figures for this year aren't available yet.

Academically, this year's pool of applicants looks much like last year's. Their average high school grade-point average is 3.19, down a bit from last year's 3.2. The average SAT score is 1048, marginally higher than last year's 1046.

More of what Radford calls students of color were admitted this year -- 871, up from 694 the year before. In 2006 and 2008, 13 percent of the students admitted to Radford were students of color. This year, 15.4 percent of those admitted fit that category.
