Police have identified the man killed in a Tuesday night crash as Thomas Christopher Cruise of Radford.

Cruise, 35, was riding in the front seat of a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer that flipped on its top in the 4700 block of Piney Woods Road in the Riner area of Montgomery County just before 8 p.m.

The driver, a 37-year-old woman whose name has not been released, was pinned inside the SUV and had to be extricated, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. She was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment and had been released by Wednesday morning.

A 1-year-old child strapped into a child safety seat in the back of the SUV was taken to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, according to the sheriff's office. The child also had been released from the hospital by Wednesday morning.

Cruise died at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the sheriff's office. Its cause is under investigation.
