New Web site offers food assistance to Radford-Fairlawn
Residents of the Radford-Fairlawn area can find a free meal at the touch of a button.
A new Web site for the Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread and its affiliated Meals on Wheels program was launched earlier this month. Chuck Kugler of Radford University and Jerry Higgins, president of Daily Bread's board of directors, were in charge of the project. The site -- radfordpl.org/dailybread -- is hosted by the Radford Public Library's community Web program.
The new site explains how residents can receive meals provided by the two programs, as well as how volunteers and donors can contribute time and money.
Daily Bread, in operation since 1992, provides free in-house meals from 11 a.m. to noon weekdays at 503 E. Main St. in Radford. The service is open to anyone who comes for food and companionship.
The Meals on Wheels service is open to people who are homebound. Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread took over the delivery program a year ago when the previous sponsors were unable to continue. Both programs are supported by local churches, organizations, individuals and the United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd.
For more information, go to the new Web site or call 639-0290 during lunchtimes on weekdays.
