Virginia Tech followed up its most successful fundraising year with a nearly identical effort, according to figures released by the university last month.
The university raised about $75.3 million in the 2005-06 fiscal year, about $1.2 million less than the previous year.
While alumni giving increased by about $7 million from last year to $32.7 million, corporate giving, giving from friends and giving from foundations decreased by a total of about $9 million.
The nearly 4,000 undergraduates in the class of 2006 gave $6,136 by June 30 -- a figure nearly identical to the 2005 class gift of $6,144 by that date.
Tech President Charles Steger matched the gift for the 2006 class to encourage the students to give.
