The Radford City Police Department reported that its officers issued 349 charges, including 36 arrests, between April 20 and 22 to students and other revelers who were in town for the annual off-campus parties associated with Quadfest.
On Saturday alone, officers gave out 250 citations and arrested 24 people, said Police Chief Gary Harmon.
Overall citations were down from 2005, when the police issued more than 400 from April 15 to 16. Many of those were issued after a “near riot” that occurred on April 16, 2005, when about 2,000 partyers filled the intersection near Fairfax Street and Second Avenue and surrounded city police officers. But arrests were up from 26 last year.
The top charges were underage possession of alcohol, followed by possessing an open container of alcohol in public, Harmon said.
