Vote for Lancaster
New River Forum
I encourage all voters who care about Blacksburg to re-elect Paul Lancaster to the Blacksburg Town Council. Lancaster has demonstrated his concern and his leadership ability on many projects affecting our town.
Lancaster was a leader in the effort for a workable special-use permit for the new Blacksburg High School stadium. He was instrumental in crafting a special-use permit that allowed stadium construction to move forward with the unanimous support of the planning commission and a majority of the council members.
This project will provide a safe, state-of-the-art facility for use by our students, coaches, fans and community. Also, this facility will be a great addition to the many assets in Blacksburg and help attract employees to existing businesses and new businesses to our community.
In addition, once the new stadium is operating, the old Middle School property can be redeveloped to enhance our downtown.
Lancaster cares about Blacksburg, is a dedicated public servant and is worthy of our votes on Tuesday.
Vote for Myers in Blacksburg
Local democracy is a vital part of our system of government. On Tuesday, three members will be elected to the Blacksburg Town Council. Your vote will matter.
Residents of Blacksburg have the opportunity to elect Derek Myers, a candidate who believes in accountability, transparency and responsibility by local officials serving in town government.
Since retiring as a department head at Virginia Tech, Myers has chosen a path of public service and civic responsibility. He is local chair of the Valley Interfaith Childcare Center and holds memberships in the NAACP and AARP, along with university, church and volunteer nonprofit organizations.
He advocates balanced, sustainable growth for our town and pledges to adhere to the comprehensive plan by promoting development guided by community values.
Myers is interested in promoting and assisting merchants throughout Blacksburg. Our neighborhoods will be well represented by his presence on the town council.
Myers is a trustworthy candidate who has been involved in our community for 35 years. He is a new voice for town council.
Lancaster offers leadership
In a perfect world, every politician would make decisions I agree with, all the time. We are not in a perfect world, and no one can agree with every position taken by those who represent us. We have an opportunity, though, to support balanced leadership as provided by Paul Lancaster during his four years of service to Blacksburg's citizens.
He consistently earns respect for his positions that enable reasonable decisions. Council members, who move our town forward while contemplating issues based on merit, are our leaders. Lancaster demonstrates leadership by being thoughtful and taking each issue on its own merit, listening to views of constituents before making decisions, having dedication to our citizens as reflected in his work ethic, and being willing to tackle difficult issues and working toward resolutions. He demonstrates each of these aspects in his leadership role finding a solution for the old middle school property.
We need Lancaster in his leadership role on the council. He has earned the opportunity to continue representing Blacksburg's citizens. Let's thank him for all he has already done and encourage his continued leadership by giving him our vote on Tuesday.
Myers gets things done
As a longtime resident of Blacksburg, I am writing this letter in support of Derek Myers for Blacksburg Town Council.
Myers' intelligence, his spirit of cooperation and his concern for the town as a whole will serve us well if he if elected.
His goal of reinstating the town's Federation of Neighborhood is sorely needed as a tool to facilitate communication between the town and its citizens' needs and concerns. His concern for smart growth and his concern for our environment are necessary requirements for this period of growth taking place in our small town. He has a flawless record of community service and of getting things done.
Please go to the polls Tuesday and elect Myers as a member of the council.
Lancaster has experience
On Tuesday, I will vote for Paul Lancaster for Blacksburg Town Council. His years on the planning commission and his term on the council provide him with a background to understand the issues of the town. Lancaster is a visible and responsive member who regularly attends community events and is an active supporter of downtown revitalization activities.
As chairman of the Blacksburg Middle School Transition Committee, he has established a good relationship with the county and has a broad perspective to guide the development of that site to benefit both the town and county.
I value Lancaster's experience and good judgment and look forward to working with him for another four years.
Vote for Huppert in Christiansburg
I have been working with Steve Huppert for these events in downtown Christiansburg: Cruisin' Christiansburg and the June 14 reopening of downtown. I have found him to be very supportive, honest, helpful, dependable, dedicated, hardworking and a good spokesman for the town.
He has been willing, without question, to do whatever is needed to promote these events. He is highly interested and caring for the people and the progress of Christiansburg. I highly recommend that the citizens of Christiansburg vote for Huppert for the Christiansburg Town Council.
Vote for Showalter in Christiansburg
As a Christiansburg citizen who owns a home and a business in our great town, I'm looking forward to the upcoming election for town council on Tuesday. My vote will be cast for Henry Showalter.
I've known Showalter for a few years now, and I am very convinced that he will bring accountability and progress to our local government. He is committed to creating more clarity and communication for how taxpayer money is being spent.
Showalter has shown real concern about making sure that the growth of our area does not sacrifice our small-town community and neighborhood charm.
He also has pledged to work to keep real estate taxes low, while also raising the bar for businesses to do their part to grow the pride in our community by keeping our buildings and properties properly maintained.
If you are looking for accountability and someone who will always have the best interest in the pride and progress of Christiansburg, then you will vote on for Showalter.
Vote for Bishop in Christiansburg
It is with a great deal of pleasure that I write this letter of support for Samuel McCoy Bishop, who is running for a seat on Christiansburg Town Council.
I have known Bishop for more than 50 years. He is a good man with Christian values. He is very honest, extremely loyal and a trustworthy person. He is a hard and dedicated worker who can make a difference for our community.
Bishop's love for this town is genuine. He has lived in Christiansburg for more than 53 years. He has seen the growth and development of our beautiful town, and his goals reflect his love for this town.
Bishop wants to promote keeping business in downtown, help control and guide continued growth, engage more citizens in town government, and keep the citizens informed.
On Tuesday, please get out to vote. I encourage you to vote for Bishop. Let him be the voice and ears for the citizens of Christiansburg. Together we can all make a difference.
Showalter will listen
I am the branch manager for ALCOVA Mortgage in Blacksburg. I am also a resident of Christiansburg and recommend Henry Showalter for town council.
He is a man of honesty and integrity. The most important benefit of electing Showalter to our town council is his ability to listen to the citizens about what is needed and communicate that to the town. I have no doubt Showalter will be a huge asset to our town council.
Huppert keeps people informed
I encourage your vote for Steve Huppert for re-election to Christiansburg Town Council.
Huppert has worked to involve town residents in town concerns. He has participated with downtown businesses to strengthen the central face of the town. Only recently have residents without the time to personally attend had access to the council's meeting actions.
Four years ago at the beginning of his term on the council, Huppert submitted summaries to the local papers to keep residents informed. The current deserved focus on opening the council to more public involvement was pioneered by his efforts.
For these reasons, Huppert has my support for another four years of service to the town.
