What a wonderful Sunday afternoon watching Radford High School students in "The Wizard of Oz."

Fortunately, we saw the small signs Friday, called and learned the performance time. Our daughter Melody, though disabled, loves all music and has this musical memorized. She loved every single minute and so did we.

Congratulations to everyone. The actors and actresses, costumes, scenery, all were excellent. The singing and acting were first-class and the community should be very proud of such a talented group of students. I wish they'd come to the lobby so we could have told each one how great it was.

Keep up the good work. I'll keep my eyes and ears open to come to every event.

The article "Preparing those forms can be taxing" (March 14) covered only three options for completing one's taxes: Doing your taxes by hand at the kitchen table with a calculator, using tax software or going to a paid professional. There is a fourth option for people who do not want to go it alone and cannot afford to pay a paid preparer or are not comfortable using software.

This option is the Internal Revenue Service-sponsored VITA/TCE free tax preparation programs. AARP is the largest partner of the IRS in these programs. AARP has a site in Roanoke and several sites in the New River Valley. We offer free tax preparation for low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and over.

The only limit is the complexity of returns; for example, we can complete Schedule C-EZ for self-employed taxpayers with a net gain, but not a standard Schedule C.

We use the same software that many CPAs use, and we e-file both federal and state returns for free. The process usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the return. Counselors must go through training and become certified by taking an IRS-issued test.
