.
Douglas Albert Jaccard, 59, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Joey Showalter for first-degree murder, two counts of attempted capital murder, malicious wounding, arson, armed burglary, four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Victims and survivors told gut-wrenching details of the Dec. 16, 2008, spree that included Jaccard shooting his neighbor once in the chest and one in the neck before setting his house on fire with people inside. He also fired at deputies when they arrived and launched a three-day manhunt.

In sentencing Jaccard on Monday, Showalter said Jaccard's actions impacted "not only to their families, but to Wythe County"

They are "some of the most heinous crimes this court has ever seen," Showalter said.
