Police have identified the Christiansburg worker who was killed on U.S. 460 this morning as a young man who had been working for the town for about three months.
Joshua Dean Boley, 22, of Christiansburg was weed-eating by the side of the road about 8:20 a.m. when an eastbound Dodge Durango ran off the right side of the road, hit the guardrail, then struck him, according to Sgt. Rob Carpentieri of the Virginia State Police. Boley died at the scene, Carpentieri said.
Carpentieri identified the driver of the SUV as 27-year-old Amanda Willis Franklin of Shawsville. No charges have been brought, Carpentieri said.
All lanes of U.S. 460 in that area were shut down immediately after the crash and traffic was detoured onto Wayside Drive. The road remained closed while a crash reconstruction team investigated, but reopened about 1 p.m.
Carpentieri said the crash remains under investigation.
