Driver charged in fatal Radford bicycle wreck

The driver of a car that turned in front of Radford University professor Forrest "Fess" Green's bicycle, causing him to crash, has been charged with reckless driving.

Green, 68, died six days after the crash, which happened about 6:15 p.m. April 23 at the entrance to Bisset Park.

Radford police said Ryan Brinkley Sherman, 20, of Radford was turning into the park's entrance when he pulled into Green's path. Green's bike struck the side of the car.

Sherman was charged today and released on his own recognizance, city spokeswoman Becky Hawke said. He faces up to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine if he is convicted of the charge.
