Legend has it that the Wilderness Road Regional Museum in Newbern is haunted. Museum workers have reported seeing things move on their own and hearing sounds upstairs. The spooky stories offer two suggestions as to the identity of the ghost. It could be a man who was killed for cheating in a card game that took place upstairs in the main building, which dates to 1810. Or, the ghost could be one of two people who were hanged at the town’s old jail, just down the street from the museum. -- Compiled by Bridget B. Winston.
