A West Virginia man was charged earlier this month with rape in connection with an incident that was reported in Montgomery County.
Barry Ray Hodges, 27, was arrested Sept. 1 and also charged with abduction and breaking and entering with the intent to commit rape, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Brian Wright said.
According to a search warrant filed last week in the county circuit court clerk’s office, a woman told police on Sept. 1 that Hodges had broken into her home on Helm Drive, in the Elliston area, and raped her. She said that Hodges cleaned himself using his own clothing and left with the clothing, according to the warrant.
Officers searched the crime scene and found a window that had been opened and footwear impressions on a trampoline under the window, the warrant stated. The bedroom sheets were in disarray, and the victim had visible injuries as a result of the attack, according to the warrant.
Hodges, of Sophia, W.Va., was located in Christiansburg driving a 2012 Nissan Titan. Officers obtained the warrant on Sept. 1 in order to search the vehicle and obtained two cellphones, condoms and a duffel bag containing clothing.
It was not immediately clear whether the victim knew Hodges before the incident — but the victim did name him to police, according to the warrant.
Wright said Hodges was held without bond. Online records show he has been transferred from the Montgomery County Jail to the Western Virginia Regional Jail. His next court date is not yet listed.
