Two crashes cleared after backing up I-81 traffic near Radford 

A 7-mile backup slowed southbound traffic earlier this morning.

Two crashes near the bridge over the New River, south of Radford, slowed traffic on both sides of Interstate 81 for nearly two hours this morning, according to VDOT.

The crashes, which both occurred between mile markers 104 and 106, clogged traffic crossing the bridge over the New River, south of Radford. The incidents slowed traffic on both sides of the road between 8 and 10 a.m.

At one point, southbound traffic in Montgomery County was backed up about 7 miles.
