Floyd church raising funds for mission work
On July 16, church members plan to build a house in Mexico in a week. Helping in the mission will be members of two other Presbyterian churches - Alta Vista, outside of Lexington, and Forest Hills in Martinsville. Participants will work with Constructores para Cristo (Carpenters for Christ), a ministry in Piedras Negras, Mexico, that arranges matters at the construction site before church members arrive. For Friday's fund-raiser at 7 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Floyd, the folk-rock group Jeuno will perform, and church members will supply coffee, tea, cappuccino and snacks.
Jeuno is a newly formed acoustic trio that has performed at coffeehouses and churches in the area for two months. The group is composed of Chris Taylor and sisters Ginger Singleton and Betsy Kelderhouse.
Kelderhouse provides the guitar. Taylor, pastor at the Floyd church, plays fiddle, congas and some bass and guitar. And Singleton plays mandolin and also some guitar. Everyone sings, but it's the sisters, said Taylor, who provide "a fantastic harmony. ... Because they're sisters, their voices have a natural blend."
