Patsy Jean Weaver Kagey had a race set before her when she was born at home in Martinsville, Va. on September 2, 1934. On September 19, 2016, she completed that race with faith and perseverance. She did so surrounded by her daughters and the great cloud of witnesses cheering her on. Her life is a testimony to the pure power of love: love of God, love of family, and love of life. As with everything she did, she lived her life with an abiding and deep faith, joy, and love. Pat delighted in the simple things of life, enjoying nothing more than being at home and cooking for her children and grandchildren.She was all things to her daughters: provider, comforter, teacher, and Christian example. As adults, her daughters found in her the best friend they could ever hope for. Her five beloved grandchildren also found in her the grandmother every child dreams of: toy buyer, chocolate chip cookie producer, and the best babysitter ever. From sewing Barbie clothes to playing Rack-O, she loved every activity with her children and grandchildren. She laughed easily, sometimes until tears came. She possessed no vanity and realized that everything good and true in her life came from above.She was a faithful member of CommUNITY Church and the church was faithful to her. Her church family visited with her constantly, prayed for her and with her, and attended to her needs both spiritual and physical, especially in her last year.Pat accepted life as it came. She saw it as a gift that she had been given and she cherished each day. The ordinary gifts of music, food, family, and friends were, to her, extraordinary.Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Homer David and Lera Virginia Pace Weaver; her brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Betty Weaver; and her beloved daughter, Cheryl Jean Kagey Wood.She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann Kagey Dorsey (Jeff) and Cynthia Kay Kagey; as well as her grandchildren Jennifer Laing Dorsey Goff (Darren), Christopher Kagey Dorsey (Katelyn), Rebecca Elizabeth Wood Murdock (Dan), Emily Clark Wood (Jason) and Caleb Andrew Wood. She is also survived by her great-grandson, Elliot Laing Goff, as well as her brothers, Milford A. Weaver (Dot), David W. Weaver (Helen), and Alvin R. Weaver (Betsy).Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on September 21, 2016 at John M. Oakey and Son in Salem, Virginia. The Funeral service will at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the CommUNITY Church, 1923 East Main Street, Salem, Virginia  The Pastors Thomas McCracken, III and Dan Carawan will officiate. A private graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Martinsville, VA with The Rev. Jeffrey L. Dorsey officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
