Abraham, Lilly, Pepperoncini, Pooche, Ralphie and Treazur will return to the runway Sunday as four-legged models sashay during the Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta’s 2013 Doggy Fashion Show.
Tango, an 11-year-old award-winning mixed breed, will join Bay, Jubie, Teeny, Tigo, Toby and Trixie in making their debuts in the sorority’s second annual doggie fashion show.
“They will model fashions from swimwear to bridal wear,” said Laurice Hampton, show coordinator.
Not only will Tango, a four-time winner of best trick and best all-around awards in the Vinton Fall Festival Doggie Show, model, she also will perform.
One of two pets that Sam and Kristin Barrett will have in the show, Tango dances and knows about 15 tricks, including an army crawl. Her pet sibling Jubie, a boxer, also will model.
The Barretts adopted Tango, who has won various other contests around the area, from the Humane Society of Montgomery County in 2002.
The Deltas use proceeds from the show to support their community service projects.
After the inaugural show in the fall of 2012, Saint Francis Service Dogs received more than $1,100 that it earmarked to provide for the needs of service dogs, some of which will demonstrate their skills during the 2013 show.
Saint Francis Service Dogs, a nonprofit organization, raises and trains service dogs for children and adults with disabilities.
The sorority also presented its Francis Ragsdale Award for Artistic Excellence and sponsored a student at the Summer Arts and Heritage Academy at West Virginia University with proceeds from the first show.
Proceeds also were used to provide tickets for several individuals to attend the Roanoke Ballet Theater production of “Cinderella” and a Broadway musical at the Roanoke Center for Performing Arts.
Tickets for the 5 p.m. Doggy Fashion Show at the Roanoke Ramada South, 1927 Franklin Road, are $10 for adults and $5 for children and students.
Tickets may be purchased by calling 580-0804 or emailing Gabrielline@aol.com.
