Expect more congestion than usual around the downtown Salem campus.
Friday, August 23, 2013
Saturday is move-in day for more than 600 new Roanoke College students, so expect more congestion than usual around the downtown Salem campus.
The arriving students include more than 550 freshmen and 75 transfer students, according to Roanoke College. They'll be moving into campus residence halls starting at 9 a.m. With the bulk of freshman housing on the southwest corner of campus, traffic will likely be heaviest along Clay and Market streets.
Once settled, the students will go through a four-day orientation that includes visiting downtown Roanoke on Sunday evening and downtown Salem on Monday evening, and working in shifts to build a house for Habitat for Humanity in a campus parking lot. The house will later be transported to a lot for installation.
Classes start Wednesday.
