Kindergarten registration for students entering Roanoke City Public Schools begins Thursday and Friday.
Parents should register at the school their child will attend. Attendance information is available online or by calling the school system. Parents may register students between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30 are eligible for kindergarten.
When registering children parents should bring: an immunization record, a state-issued birth certificate, a report of a comprehensive physical examination for the child and proof of residency.
Physical exams must be completed within 12 months of when children enter school. A copy of a lease, mortgage or real estate assessment may be used as proof of residency or parents may bring a valid driver's license and a current utility bill.
Parents can register students for kindergarten after this week, but if they do should call schools before coming to register.
Applications for preschool are also being accepted. Children who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 30 are eligible to apply for the 4-year-old preschool program.
Applications for preschool are available at all elementary schools and online. Preschool screenings will be scheduled in March, April and May.
