Averhart, Eileen Wallace Keffer
Eileen Wallace Keffer Averhart, 92, died Monday, August 31, 2015, at her home in Blacksburg. Born April 13, 1923, in the beautiful Sinking Creek Valley of Craig County, she was the first of five children for the late Rex Wallace and Ethel Hughes Keffer. On December 21, 1976, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Franklin Averhart, whom she had married on May 8, 1948.She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Roy, Alton, and William (Bill) Keffer; her sister, Bertie K. Ratliff; her son-in-law, C.C. Dunford; and an infant grandson, Randolph C. Dunford. In 1941 she graduated from Maywood High School in Craig County. She enjoyed going to their all-class reunions. She was a former employee of Celanese in Narrows and Leggett in Blacksburg. She was baptized in Sinking Creek and was a member of Level Green Christian Church. She loved attending church as long as she was able to. She loved to dress up, wearing her signature fragrance, White Diamonds. Mrs. Averhart loved her garden, her flowers, sewing, and family get-togethers. Her last big one was for her ninetieth birthday. She also loved coffee, Dr. Pepper, chocolate ice cream, and her Virginia Tech Hokies.She is survived by her daughters, Debra D. Averhart, of Blacksburg, and Dreama A. Dunford, of Dublin; her son, Roger W. Averhart, of Blacksburg; her granddaughters, Amy Crouch and husband, Mark, of Bedford, and Audra Bowyer and husband, Troy, of Forest; her great-grandchildren, Conner Bowyer and Mariah Bowyer of Forest, and Stephanie Crouch of Bedford; and special sister-in-law, Janie Sue Keffer, of Christiansburg. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She also leaves behind her beloved church family.Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 3, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Level Green Christian Church, Cumberland Gap Road, Newport, Va. The services will be conducted by Leland Duncan, Richie Goad, and Cliff McLawhorn. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday, September 2, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
