EDUCATION
The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors has conferred the title of emeritus on the following faculty members: Gary Brown, Bradley Distinguished Professor of Electromagnetics in the College of Engineering; Timothy Pratt, professor of electrical and computer engineering in the College of Engineering; John Randolph, professor of urban affairs and planning in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies; Richard Sorensen, dean of the Pamplin College of Business.
X.J. Meng, a professor of molecular virology at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, has been named a University Distinguished Professor by the board of visitors.
Charles Clancy, director of the Ted and Karyn Hume Center for National Security and associate professor of electrical and computer engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, was recently named the first L-3 Communications Cyber Faculty Fellow of Electrical and Computer Engineering by the board of visitors.
Richard Crowder, professor of agricultural and applied economics in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, was recently named the C.G. Thornhill Professor of Agricultural Trade by the board of visitors.

The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants named area 2013 Life Member Award winners: C. Thomas Brewer, Richard Garbee, D. Berkley Keen and William Proffitt Jr.
Dominion Risk Advisors announced the following staff changes: Sean Daley has been hired as assistant account manager and Jennifer Schang has been promoted to vice president.
Gerald Barnes was elected to the Freedom First Credit Union board of directors.
Linda Long Barnett has been promoted to assistant vice president by BB&T Scott & Stringfellow.

Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine–Virginia Campus in Blacksburg announced the following staff changes: William Thomas II has been named a sports medicine fellow and Danielle Hale has been named an administrative assistant for the obstetrics/gynecology and pediatrics departments.
Janice Wilkins has been named director of nursing at Richfield Retirement Community.

Children’s Trust of the Roanoke Valley announced the following promotions and additions to its staff: Holly Peters has joined as a supervisor for the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program; Nancy Fralin fills a newly created operations coordinator position; Nancy Creedon, formerly executive and fundraising assistant at Children’s Trust, has been named special events coordinator; Christina Rouse has been promoted to director of the Children’s Advocacy Center; Judi Jacobsen has been promoted to the director of CASA; and Erica East has been promoted to director of prevention programs.
Robert Smythers has been named president of Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of the Blue Ridge.
