TV-station owner Media General has restored four Gulf Coast region TV stations to the satellite TV provider Dish Network ahead of this weekend's Tropical Storm Karen.
The stations are in Birmingham, Ala., Hattiesburg, Miss., Jackson, Miss., and Mobile, Ala./Pensacola, Fla. They will be aired on Dish Network through midnight Sunday.
After the expiration of a retransmission contract, Media General blacked out its stations from the Dish Network in 17 markets beginning Monday, including WSLS-TV in Roanoke. WSLS and 12 other stations will remain blacked out over the weekend, according to a news release from Dish Network.
There was no immediate indication the blackout might be lifted for other regions in the projected path of the storm, but both companies would be monitoring the situation over the weekend, a
Dish spokeswoman said Friday.
The company had asked Media General to restore service in all markets, before receiving permission in those four, the spokeswoman said.
