Bubblecake has opened its third store, this time in the New River Valley.
The Christiansburg store opened Thursday at Village Square on Peppers Ferry Road, said Lisa Lusk, who owns the cupcake business with her husband, Rob Lusk. Bubblecake also has stores on Crystal Spring Avenue in Roanoke and on Electric Road in Roanoke County.
The Lusks decided to expand into the New River Valley because they had a lot of customers from that area who traveled to Roanoke, Lisa Lusk said. They knew that the market was familiar with their product so they wouldn’t have to put too much time and effort into marketing.
The Lusks want to expand into other markets, such as Lynchburg and Charlottesville. But Lusk said they first will make sure business is running smoothly at their three established locations.
The cupcakes at the new store will be baked at the Crystal Spring store and taken to Christiansburg, where a pastry chef will add the icing (also made in Roanoke) and decorations.
Earlier this summer the Lusks purchased a truck to transport the cupcakes. It also will double as a food truck they can take to events.
