A Roanoke man has opened a pet supply store to serve pet owners on the west side of the city.

Jesse Taylor opened Paradise Pet Supplies at
3543 Shenandoah Avenue, just east of the intersection with Peters Creek Road.

The store carries supplies for dogs, cats, birds and fish, including crates, cages, flea and tick remedies, and food, Taylor said. The store does not sell animals.

Taylor, who breeds bulldogs, said he was traveling to Tractor Supply Co. and PetSmart to get supplies for his dogs. He saw a need for a pet supply store on the western side of the town, he said.

Taylor also wanted to bring one of his favorite dog and cat food brands, Victor, to Roanoke, he said.

  • The Kroger Co. said Thursday that it has reached a new three-year labor agreement with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 400. The agreement covers approximately 4,800 employees working in 41 stores in Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee. Union representatives could not be reached for comment Thursday.
