NARROWS - Celanese Corp. will break ground on a clean-energy conversion at its Giles County plant later this month.
The Dallas-based specialty materials and chemical products company is replacing coal-fired boilers with natural gas-fired boilers at the plant in Narrows. Celanese manufactures cellulose acetate products used in filtering and other industrial applications at the 74-year-old facility.
The company announced the $150 million project last year. Officials said it will provide more than 150 jobs during construction.
The groundbreaking is set for Aug. 27.
