Peaks of Otter Lodge seeks to fill 20 jobs

The Peaks of Otter Lodge and Restaurant is hiring.

The lodge, which re opened in July under new management, will fill 20 seasonal positions immediately. The available jobs are both full-time and part-time positions and include servers, a dining room supervisor, retail cashiers, night auditor, bartender, dishwasher and people to bus tables.

Some of the jobs are new positions, but others are vacancies the lodge has yet to fill since it re opened July 12 after a nearly eight-month closure.

"As we continue our operation from a soft opening to a full opening, other units are coming online" which will require more workers, said interim manager Marcus Story .

Some of the new additions will be unveiled soon. The restaurant will bring back its popular Friday seafood buffet later this month. The lodge also will introduce a "grab-and-go" stand for quick food and retail purchases, Story said.

Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts became the lodge and restaurant's concessionaire after the previous management company opted not to renew its contract. The lodge closed at Thanksgiving and re opened last month with a new menu and promises of more amenities, which include satellite television and wireless Internet access in the rooms.

New hires will start immediately and will work through December, when the lodge closes for winter.

Story said that the lodge's first four weekends have gone well. He said that the lodge's occupancy rate has been strong and that the restaurant has been "very busy," especially during weekends. The lodge's overnight visitation numbers for July are not yet available from the National Park Service.

"Everything has gone great," Story said. "We have overwhelming support from the community who continue to support the venue. We have had a lot of people who stopped by and said ‘hello,' some of whom then decided to stay."
