WSET (Channel 13), the Roanoke and Lynchburg area's ABC affiliate, and other television stations owned by its parent company Allbritton Co. have been purchased by Baltimore-based Sinclair Broadcast Group for $985 million.

Arlington-based Allbritton had announced May 1 that it would put seven ABC Network stations and NewsChannel8, a 24-hour local news service for the D.C. region, up for sale.

In addition to Lynchburg, Allbritton is selling stations in D.C., Alabama, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

According to its news release, Sinclair will own and operate, program or provide sales services to 149 television stations in 76 markets when the sale is complete.

Allbritton still owns the political news website Politico and WJLA in Washington, D.C.
